It’s time for another update on my No-Spend Lent. Just a short post this week, as everything is going pretty well. We learned some new things and made some better choices to keep things running as they should.
New tricks for grocery shopping in Lent (or in general)
This week went so much better on the no-spending front! Our family had to do our regular grocery shopping, and with my detailed list, I was able to resist excessive purchases (keep an eye out for another post about how we handle meal planning). We got the food we will use for meals and snacks and left the extras at the store. I decided to make even more of our bread from scratch, so that reduces costs, too. It sounds counter-intuitive, but we switched to a higher-end grocery store when compared to Walmart, and we saved money on groceries because it removed the temptation to randomly spend throughout the store.
We had a birthday!
One kid had a birthday this week, and it was tempting to spend extra to spoil her, but we stayed within our normal traditions without going overboard and she had so much fun! We always keep our typical birthday traditions in the budget, like a special birthday balloon, homemade meals of the child’s choice, and their own crazy design of a homemade birthday cake.
Do you have any tips for me?
How has the No-Spend Lent been going for you? Are you flying through without issue, or is it as tough as the previous week was for me? I’d love to hear from you about your trials and successes, as well as tricks to make this journey go more smoothly.
